Juvenile Board

The Harris County Juvenile Board is the governing body of Harris County Juvenile Probation Department. The juvenile board also serves as the school board of Excel Academy Charter School.

As mandated by law, the duties of the juvenile board include establishing a juvenile probation department, employing a chief probation officer, adopting a budget and establishing policies, including financial policies for juvenile services within the jurisdiction of the juvenile board. (§152.0007(a), H.R.C.) In accordance with §51.12 of the Texas Family Code, the juvenile board also controls the conditions and terms of detention and detention supervision. Annuallya majority of the juvenile board must personally inspect each of the department's facilities.
